The training is taking place in Belfast, Northern Ireland, and is an introductory workshop that gives you a chance to explore Sensorimotor Psychotherapy and gain an insight as to what the Level 1 training course is about. These are not run by ACC but by one of our affiliated organisations.

ACC Northern Ireland - October 2010 seminars
Personality disorders

Belfast delegates - Lynn Farr ( Dep Chair ACC), Sheila HenningThe ACC Northern Ireland Autumn 2010 flagship activity was ‘a tale of two cities’, with an evening seminar aimed at counsellors and psychotherapists entitled Personality Disorders, which was presented at two venues to allow as many ACC members and other interested parties as possible to attend.

On 14 October the seminar was held in Belfast. A week later the banks of the Lagan were exchanged for the banks of the River Foyle, with the seminar being presented in the walled city of Londonderry in the north. This was virgin territory for an ACC Northern IrelanAndrew Collinsd event, but proved fruitful, with a good number attending, including several people coming from over the border in Donegal.

We were very pleased to welcome as speaker Dr Andrew Collins, a consultant psychiatrist who is also involved in the field of Christian counselling. Andrew expertly guided his audiences through the different categories of personality disorder; what causes it to happen; presentation; management and referral.Speaking on how Christian counsellors deal with their clients, he commented that: ‘Our personalities are under renovation, which gives us great hope despite great difficulties.’Londonderry delegates - John Blair (ACC comm), Sheelagh Montgomery and Vivienne Kane

There was positive feedback for the seminars, not least from the variety of people who attended, including counsellors, psychotherapists, students and staff from local further and higher education colleges and universities, doctors, nurses and pastoral carers. Indeed the large majority of attendees at the Londonderry seminar had never previously been to an ACC event, resulting in ACC making many new contacts, especially in the north of the province.
