Counsellor Manager
When a person has gained extensive experience (in excess of 10 years) in counselling and supervisory practice and is now spending considerable time managing and training counsellors and/or managing an Agency they may apply in this category.
Requirements for accreditation as a Counsellor Manager :-
- agreement with ACC's "Statement of Faith".
- agreement to work within the terms of ACC's "Ethics and Practice" document.
- the applicant should have previously been accredited as a Counselling Practitioner or Accredited Counsellor.
- photocopies of logged evidence of the applicant's counselling practice for one year (normally showing at least 50 hours of practice).
- evidence of the training courses being provided and the management duties being undertaken. Evidence of hours being completed regularly in these roles should be submitted. These claims should be separately endorsed by others such as a trustee, a minister and/or a supervisor.
- reference from the applicant's supervisor of supervision or from the supervisor of theri counselling practice if not supervising. This must be on the pro-forma currently approved by ACC and must reflect the experience, competence and good practice of the applicant.
- reference from the applicant's Church Leader who will confirm that the applicant is a maturing Christian and in fellowship with other Christians. This must be on the pro-forma currently approved by ACC.
- agreement to undertake appropriate Continued Professional Development (CPD): a minimum of 20 hours per annum.
- If supervision is offered, evidence of adequate supervision training would be required.
- a personal development statement (approx. 800-1000 words) explaining how and what growth has taken place since the last accreditation.
- proof of adequate professional indemnity insurance.
Certification lasts for four years but applicants will be invited to reassess their level of membership after three and a quarter years to avoid any member having an obsolete certificate. At this point a Counsellor Manager will have two options.
Option 1.
To apply for a Maintenance certificate which would require :-
i) all the original documents, except the case study, completed up to date with new references supplied.
ii) produce additional documentation showing evidence of Continued Professional Development (CPD): a minimum of 20 hours per annum.
Option 2.
Apply, if appropriate, for another category.
